The Vivaldi browser offers an easy upgrade from Google Chrome

The Vivaldi browser offers an easy upgrade from Google Chrome

Most browsers are now being dumbed down to appeal to the mass market, but Vivaldi - now at the beta 2 stage - is going the other way, to appeal to "power users".

The Vivaldi browser now offers a Google-free replacement for Chrome on Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. Switching requires very little effort because, like several rivals, it's based on open source Chromium code, and renders websites exactly like Chrome.

Vivaldi web browser lets you do things your way by adapting to you and not the other way around. You prefer the browser tabs placed at the bottom or on the side of the window? – You prefer a different address bar location? Go ahead and customize your preferences be it your keyboard shortcuts, mouse gestures, appearance and so on.

Tired of unorganized tabs in your browser? Let the mess be cleaned up with Vivaldi. Organize your tabs using Tab stacks, a feature that you will fall in love with. It lets you group multiple tabs into one. It can’t get better than this – just drag a tab over to another for an uncomplicated grouping.

Take notes and add screen shots of web pages while browsing, store attachments and add URL’s to easily organize and locate it later.

Vivaldi ’s color scheme will adapt as you browse the web, much like a chameleon adapts to its surroundings. A clean and modern look complements the content. Facebook turns Vivaldi blue, The Verge will make it orange – If you so wish.

Obviously we know why the FBI chose this phone to escalate their demands publicly rather than any of the other dozen phones where they are asking similar access. Their only intention is precedent and they think an anti-terrorism case is where they will have most public support. I now believe they know nothing is on the phone and they changed the password on purpose just to try and set precedent.

Samsung is building 256GB memory chips for smartphones

Samsung is building 256GB memory chips for smartphones

Your smartphone may soon have as much storage as a typical PC. Samsung has announced that it's mass producing 256GB embedded chips, double what it had last year, using the Universal Flash Storage (UFS) 2.0 standard. That gives them read speeds nearly twice that of typical SATA-based SSDs at 850MB/s, though write speeds are lower at 250MB/s. It also supports 45,000 IOPS, more than double the speed of last-gen UFS memory. Samsung's memory division VP says the company is "moving aggressively to enhance performance and capacity" of smartphone memory and SSD products, too.

Smartphones may no longer be "just a mobile device". With converged OSs becoming a reality now, a smartphone could well become the main productivity device for many - with power, storage, speed, low power consumption, and ultra compact footprint.

Very disturbing breach.

Very disturbing breach. One of the top 3 Linux distros, Mint, was compromised. If you downloaded the hacked iso file from their website since Feb 20th, you probably have a backdoor and you should get rid of it. Download a new version and use the md5 checksums to verify the download is valid. The attackers were also able to access the Forums and steal Names, email address, and hashed passwords. If you’re a Mint Forum member, change your credentials immediately.
